Thai Sa Lor

The Sa Lor is another Northern Thai instrument played in the same ensemble as the Seung . Similar to look at as the Saw Sarm Sai but actually a more basic version. The sound chamber is made from a small Gourd which has been cut not quite totally in half. The large piece is used. On top of the gourd is the bridge with supports the two wire strings.Wooden pegs are normally used for tuning but in the photo on the right you can see that more modern tuning pegs have been used. The strings are bowed with a simple wooden bow made from animal hair. Unlike the Saw U and Saw Duang the bow is not attached. The instrument is normally used to play instrumental versions of folk songs.
